I purchased a gift card online from Giftly, neither myself or the person I purchased the card for got an email from them. The company’s new app lets you send gifts directly through your phone. That makes it easier to — for example — give a friend a beer when you see them check into a bar. There’s also a bigger emphasis on items, since users tend to give smaller gifts. Hotels and car rentals often require a credit card and that’ll mean that they have to put a “hold” on your card—so part of the balance of your gift card may not be available. And, for tipping, the merchant or issuer may decide to authorize your transaction for an additional 20% above your total bill.

Unlike most gift cards, giftly reviews allows the buyer to select up to three venues where the recipient can spend the money. If you want to treat someone to a great date night, you could gift them money to unlock at a restaurant, a movie theater, and a dessert place. My mom purchased a gift card for Great Wolf Lodge, but it turned out to be a hassle. Despite the extra $16 she paid, the card was considered third-party, requiring a money transfer to my bank instead of a direct redemption.

I am unsure when Giftly began selling these gift cards, but I am concerned for customers who purchased massage gift cards that I never authorized. Giftly falsely advertised gift coupons from my business. I ordered a gift certificate for my grandson for $100.00 for Lulu. I was charged on July 30 and my grandson never received the gift certificate.

This additional charge will be returned to the card’s balance typically within 4 business days if the purchase is successful. The purchase will be declined when the merchant requests an authorization in an amount greater than the available card balance. When using your card for hotels or travel, funds may be held for up to 30 business days. Activation is not required for Visa or Mastercard Virtual eGifts or store-specific merchant cards. These cards are ready to use once you “claim” the gift by clicking the button in the email you received.
